“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ,in accordance with his pleasure and will - to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” Ephesians 3:1-6
As a worship leader when I read this portion of scripture I realise that we are all called to be worship leaders, to praise the name of Jesus and declare the many precious gifts He has given us. The first chapter of Ephesians explains why we should worship our God. In Acts it tells us that we were actually created for His purpose of worshipping Him.
This portion of scripture is where Paul is giving an outburst of praise to the ‘God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.’ In these verses it demonstrates our God to be gracious, sovereign, loving and our Saviour. This is the God that we serve! God has given many pre-destined, present and future divine blessings which we need to be grateful for. We can bless the Lord when we ascribe to Him the honour due to His holy Name, when we bow in adoration of His essential perfections and in thanksgiving for their manifestations in His mighty acts.
Worship is an important concept that we still haven’t fully grasped. Worship is a response to God’s initiatives in both revelation and redemption. Our role model of worship is the Holy Spirit who is the ultimate worship leader. We are reminded that we worship by ‘the Spirit of God (Phil 3:3.) Knowing that we need to be dependent on Him we become lead worshippers, setting an example for others to follow. Worship is to be offered to God on His terms, in accordance with His instructions, in the context of a life submitted to Him and obedient to His revealed will and ways.
So are you ready to take up the mantle of worship and become the role of being a worship leader for God?
